The Tik Alert self-testing kit is a simple finger-prick blood test which detects immunoglobulin M (IgM) anti-Borrelia antibodies. The presence of these antibodies can indicate an infection with Lyme disease, which needs treatment by your doctor.
Ticks are small spider like creatures found in grassy areas, and the Borrelia bacteria are transmitted to humans following a tick bite.
The accuracy of these types of serological IgM tests depends on when the test is used, as the level of IgM antibodies can take a few weeks or more to develop to detectable levels. Full information on when to use the test is provided with the test kit.
