The Tik Alert self-testing kit is a simple finger-prick blood test which screens for immunoglobulin M (IgM) anti-Borrelia antibodies. The presence of these antibodies may indicate an infection with Lyme disease, but whether you have a positive or negative test result you must speak with your doctor if you have symptoms or are anxious about your health.
Ticks are small spider like creatures found in grassy areas, and the Borrelia bacteria are transmitted to humans following a tick bite.
The accuracy of these types of serological IgM tests depends on when the test is used, as the level of IgM antibodies can take a few weeks or more to develop to detectable levels. Full information on when to use the test is provided with the test kit.
